I'd say Tarver is a 2 dollar chalk; o/u 10.5 rounds. As I said, I don't think the guys who set the numbers make lines based on what goes here. At least not what I think anyway.

The fact of the matter is that we will never know with certainty whether they do or don't.

And if they don't, how do they come up with the lines? Some type of complicated statistics model to which only bookmakers have access? Collectively, many of the various boards (this one included) play a role IMO. It just seems logical to me when you consider that not many books have lines on boxing. There really is nowhere from which to just copy a line.

Oddsmakers handicap sporting events based on many factors. Personally, the most telling concept I've ever heard regarding setting of lines was that it is not the oddsmakers opinion of who he thought was the better of any two opposing sides, but what he thought the public thought was the more superior side. The price is set based on what the oddsmakers feel the public is willing to pay for the perceived "better" team/boxer/
etc. It is possible some of these guys may visit these forums to guage who bettors think is the right side. I don't have a clue if they do or not. I don't give a rat's rear end. If I see an opportunity I post it to the best of my ability. I like to intiate discussion and pool the collective opinions derived from our discourse. If the oddsmakers need us to set their lines, that's pitiful.

interesting topic................setting lines on... boxing is a different animal compared to lines on team sports..

imo, FRANKS hit the nail on the head........."price is set based on what oddsmakers feel the public will pay for......"

do i think oddsmakers gauge forum opinion to set lines???.........NO WAY....why?? because in the overall sportsbetting picture forum readers and posters comprise a very small percentage of gamblers......

oddessa..........from what i have seen could give more insight on setting boxing lines..
